Hello! My name is Josée Fortin, I am a Calgary, AB-based visual development artist interested in all things gaming and animation. I have always been intrigued by the pre-production process behind feature films, and some animated series. I've done various work on animations, board games, and for people's own interests.
It began when my parents showed The Lord of the Rings Trilogy to my siblings and I, at an age that would seem concerning to most. So, they showed us the behind-the-scenes and full making-of documentation to assure us that nothing was, in fact, real. It opened my eyes to the world of character creation and fantasy world development, something that would inspire my work to come.
I started drawing in elementary school and have been doing it ever since. I gained a love for video games and digital art production in my high school years. Something that would direct my interest into post-secondary schooling.
This lead me to the University of Lethbridge where I am earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts, focusing on animation, concept art and illustration. At the start of my schooling I also began involving myself in various online communities, utilizing some that have helped expand my identity as an artist and content creator.
What do I do?
My main interest in art surrounds character creation and concept production, something I started when I was very young. Making up new designs and exploring different visual combinations was always very exciting to me and is reflected in the evolution of my style.
My choice of colour in each piece can also be attributed to the colourful worlds of fantasy and magic, as I love working with extremely vibrant and highly saturated colours.
Some of my favourite games are Bungie’s Destiny, Moon Studio’s Ori and the Blind Forest, and Blizzard’s Overwatch, which displays the visual design and storytelling I find the most interesting and would like to try and reflect in my own work.
The name Aurelia Fayne comes from a character I created in 2012, for a web comic series I dreamed of making. I started using it as online social media handles and usernames across the Internet, eventually being used as a representation of my online identity and my love for character creation.
